This is Zoe Desmond an inspiring single mother creating an incredible support network for single parents in the form of an app where people can connect and find support advice and share their stories.
Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Zoë, the founder of Frolo, a social networking App for single parents that is launching on IOS and Android soon. What inspired/motivated you to create your business?
When I became a single parent (to my son Billy who was 1 at the time), the loneliness and isolation of being a single parent hit me really hard. I craved knowing other people near me in the same situation so that we could lean on each other for moral support and organise meet ups, plays dates and holidays with ease. I couldn't find anyway of connecting with like-minded single parents near me so I decided to create it myself. What advice would you give others wanting to start a business? Or rise up through the ranks?
If you believe in your gut that your business idea has potential then take a deep breath, shut off your inner critic and just go for it - it's scary but exhilarating and if you don't try, you'll never know. Try and seek out all the help, support and guidance you can get along the way.
What have you learnt on your journey as a business owner?
Ups and downs are part of the journey - use the challenges as a valuable learning experience for the road ahead.
What has been the toughest challenge being your own boss? Being in such a high position?
I am a solo founder which is really liberating in some ways but it can also be intense making all of the big decisions and taking responsibility for every aspect of the business.
What is the best thing about being your own boss?
I love seeing the community I dreamed about in my head turn into a reality.

To celebrate women in business I've launched a series called #FemaleBossFeature
Each week I will introduce a woman in business who will share what they do, how they do it, what they've learnt and share a piece of advice for those wanting to start their own business. To get involved please contact me here.
